This pin measures 1.25 inches from end to end.

It's the details that make this tiny pins very large statement! From the hand carved mold , to the hand wrapped spring this is a very elegant brooch based on a Roman artifact.

A fibula is an ancient fastener, first developed in the Bronze Age, used mostly to fasten clothing or cloaks. Though the name ‘fibula’ originally was used only for pins of Roman origin, it has come to be used for any ancient fastener with an elongated body and a hinge or spring attaching the pin. This is, in fact, the ancient predecessor of the modern safety pin.

Small brooches are best for light- to medium-weight shawls and scarves as well as for medium-weight clothing.  Remember, they can be used purely as decorative brooches on clothing and hats as well!
